Sam Trickett spoke of his experiences in Macau earlier this week, which included a huge bluff that almost cost him and World Series of Poker Europe Main Event winner, James Bord, a huge sum.
Trickett is considered to be one of the most promising UK poker players having taken down over $1.5 million in live tournament play since his debut on the scene in 2007.
The 24 year old headed to Macau last year after being persuaded by Bord, who also bought a 30% stake in his close friend, to take part in the elite high stakes cash game action synonymous with the city.
Trickett won $257,115 playing US$40/$80 No Limit Hold’em before testing himself at the US$600/$1200 level. Trickett continued to run hot as he posted an upswing of over $1 million after a lengthy session.
However, that session included a huge bluff which almost saw him lose all of his money after moving all in with Qh-Jh.
The renowned Tom Dwan and a Chinese businessman were involved in the hand. Trickett called down Dwan’s raise pre-flop before the Big Blind bet $16,000 on a T-3-2 rainbow flop.
Trickett and Dwan completed. A 7 on the turn prompted the BB to lead out for $38,567. Trickett raised to $102,846 and the BB called. Dwan mucked his cards.
Trickett then explains how a specific read on his opponent’s hand led him to jam all of his chips into the middle.
“The river was another seven and paired the board so I jammed. If he calls though, I am out of money. I am all in for $250,000.”
“But I just had a specific read on the hand and how it would play out.”
The Big Blind folded and Sam Trickett raked in the chips. Tom Dwan apparently texted Trickett afterwards to congratulate him on the bluff as he had seen his hand shake afterwards.
