There are a number of poker etiquette rules which you should be aware of as a beginner poker player. The following poker information will ensure that the game is able to run smoothly and fairly.
Wait for your turn: Make sure that you never play out of turn, no matter how good, or bad, your hand. Otherwise, other players will know information they shouldn’t and this can spoil the betting.
Never show your cards: Once you’ve folded make sure no-one can see what your cards were. This information can change the course of play.
Don’t splash the pot: Although popular in the movies, chucking your chips into the center of the pot for poker bets is highly disliked. Simply stack them in front of you neatly.
Resist string bets: Another film habit is when a player announces: ‘I’ll call your 100…and raise another 200!’ You need to say immediately in poker betting whether you’re calling or what you’re raising.
Never be rude: Losing isn’t fun but that doesn’t give you the right to be rude to the others players or the dealer. Such a show will not be taken kindly.
Always pay attention: Make sure that you keep up with the game. It can be annoying for other players if they have to remind you that it’s your turn.
