2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table

Day 2 of the $100,000 Super High Roller at the 2012 World Poker Tour World Championship was completed on Thursday and the televised final table has been set. Finishing on top of the final six players was Daniel Perper with 3.415 million in chips.

When the day began, two more players jumped into the mix thanks to this event having a re-entry format. Sorel Mizzi was a brand new player to buy-in while Clemenceau Calixto re-entered after having busted on Day 1. That brought the total field size to 34 entries and the top five spots were set to be paid from the $3.315 million prize pool. Fifth place was set at $263,160 and the winner will receive just over $1.3 million plus a seat into the 2013 WPT World Championship worth $25,500.

As the day wore on, big names were hitting the rail left and right. Some of those eliminated early were the aforementioned Mizzi, Jason Mercier, Dan Shak and Isaac Haxton. Mercier was one of three players to fire in a second bullet and busted during Level 12 with the blinds at 6,000/12,000/2,000.

According to the WPT Live Updates Team, it was Brian Hastings who delivered the final blow to Mercier. Mercier had opened to 24,000 from the cutoff seat and Hastings re-popped it to 55,000 on the button. Action moved back to Mercier and he reraised all in for approximately 340,000. Hastings called with the 2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table. The big story on the day proved to be Justin Bonomo. He constantly was at the top of the counts and surely the player everyone was keeping their eyes on. It wasn’t too long ago that Bonomo won The PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final “100,000 Super High Roller to the tune of “1.64 million. That same week at the EPT Grand Final he also took 28th in the Main Event and fourth in the “25,000 High Roller. Needless to say, he’s having quite the year.

Bonomo did the deed of busting the final player of the day to officially set the televised final table. He busted Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge winner Dan Smith in seventh place during Level 17 with the blinds up to 20,000/40,000/4,000.

It was reported that Smith moved all in from middle position for his last 400,000 or so and Bonomo made the call from the button. Everyone else folded and Smith’s 2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table was up against Bonomo’s 2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table2012 World Poker Tour 0,000 Super High Roller Day 2: Daniel Perper Leads Final Table. 2012 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Day 1: Juan Garcia Leads the Way

After six levels of play, Day 1 of the PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Main Event has come to a close. Juan Garcia has managed to rise above the rest, building his starting stack of 20,000 up to 134,650.

Garcia will be joined on Day 2 by several notables who survived the first six levels of play, including Claudio Garrone (84,200), Julian Menendez (72,000), Fabrizio Gonzalez (62,875), Santiago Nadal (58,000), Bolivar Palacios (44,650), and Ari Engel (6,125). Also returning on Friday is the 2011 LAPT Punta del Este Main Event champion Alex Komaromi. Komaromi will be sitting on a stack of 37,075.

While many thrived during play, others were not so fortunate. Oded Minod, Daniela Zapielo, Juan Jose Perez, Pablo Gonzalez, and Leonardo Olivares were among those who hit the rail.

Team PokerStars had their fair share of notable names to survive on to Day 2 play. Among those returning are Angel Guillen (24,000) and Nacho Barbero (22,650). That being said, Team PokerStars pros Andre Akkari, Leo Fernandez and Christian de Leon were not fortunate enough to survive the day.

Humberto Brenes will also be returning for Day 2 play after a day filled with many ups and downs. Brenes’ lowest point occurred early on when he flopped what should have been a jackpot. His opponent, on the other hand, held 2012 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Day 1: Juan Garcia Leads the Way2012 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Day 1: Juan Garcia Leads the Way for bottom two pair. Unfortunately for Brenes, the turn and river brought the 2012 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Day 1: Juan Garcia Leads the Way and the 2012 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Day 1: Juan Garcia Leads the Way giving his opponent a heart flush. All of the money went in on the river and Brenes’ chip stack was virtually crippled after doubling his opponent up. However, as the day progressed, Brenes was able to overcome the odds and end the day’s play with 16,825 in chips.

The event managed to attract 375 entrants, which was down from the attendance of 422 in 2011. The top 56 players in the tournament will get paid and first place will take home a whopping prize of $186,820.

Originally, Day 1 of this event was supposed to play a full 10 levels, but the tournament staff decided to amend the structure, making both Day 1 and 2 of the event only six levels. This will provide a refreshing evening for the remaining players, as they will be able to relax and enjoy a long dinner and night off before play resumes on Friday for levels 7 through 12.

The remaining 270 players will return to the felt tomorrow at 1200 UYT (0800 PDT) for Day 2 and PokerNews will be here to provide updates on all of the action.
