Poker is very much an individual pursuit, so when a rare chance comes around to represent your country in a team event comes around, you have to grab it with both hands. For the eighth year running, PokerStars has announced the World Cup of Poker. The annual event pitches teams of amateurs and pros from every country to play for cash and national pride. The final table takes place live at the PCA in January.
You can represent your country as a Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder or Striker, by qualifying exclusively at PokerStars. Stage 1 qualifiers start between August 20-21, with buy-ins ranging between free, $11, and invite only for TLB winners.
If a player wins a qualifier from their respective country, they move on to Stage 2, where the knockout rounds will see the seven best teams progress to the live final at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January.
