PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks

Season 5 of the PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile continued on Thursday at the Enjoy Casino & Resort in Vina del Mar with Day 1b of the Main Event, which attracted 367 players. Combined with Day 1a’s 284, that brought the total to 651 players, surpassing last year’s field of 621 players and creating a prize pool of $651,840.

Among the players who took a shot at the $129,470 first-place prize on Thursday were Team PokerStars Pros Nacho Barbero, Humberto Brenes, Andre Akkari, as well as Flavio Reis, Eric Brenes, Luis Montano, and Thiago “XtheDecanoX” Nishijima, a Brazilian online pro who has had quite a bit of success on both the live and virtual felt.

In one of the more interesting hands of the day, a player in middle position opened for 2,000 and was met with an all-in three-bet to 3,000 by the player on the button. When action was on Nishijima in the big blind, he thought for a moment before putting out a four-bet to 5,200. The player in middle position called and the PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" LurksPokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" LurksPokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks flop fell.

Nishijima was first to act and slid out a bet of 5,000, which inspired the player in middle position to fold.

Showdown

It was a sweet flop for Nishijima, who held middle set, but the player on the button was in big trouble. The PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks turn did give him a gut-shot straight draw to a jack, but it was not meant to be as the PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks river gave Nishijima quads! He advanced to Day 2 with 92,900.

Unfortunately not everyone was so lucky. Humberto Brenes lasted until after the dinner break, but soon met his demise. It happened when he defended his big blind after the button had raised, leading to a PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" LurksPokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" LurksPokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks flop. Likewise, Akkari put up a good fight for much of the day, but couldn’t hold on after he lost the majority of his chips in a monster pot after hitting an ace with PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" LurksPokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks only to have his opponent hit a runner-runner flush with PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" LurksPokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Chile Day 1b: Lopes Leads; "XtheDecanoX" Lurks. PokerStars.net LAPT Grand Final Day 3: Nestola Leads; Negreanu Eyes LAPT Title

Day 3 of the 2012 PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour Grand Final wrapped up shortly after dinner on Sunday in São Paulo, Brazil. Leading the way in a big way is Daniele Nestola. He finished with 1.892 million in chips and has about 600,000 more than Carlos Ibarra, who is in second place. Vitor Torres will be the short stack, wrapping up with 273,000 in chips.

The day began with 24 players returning to action including Team PokerStars Pro Humberto Brenes. Entering the day as the shortest stack in the room didn’t make things easy on Brenes and he was out the door in 22nd place.

Brenes was all-in with PokerStars.net LAPT Grand Final Day 3: Nestola Leads; Negreanu Eyes LAPT TitlePokerStars.net LAPT Grand Final Day 3: Nestola Leads; Negreanu Eyes LAPT Title against Martin Santos’ PokerStars.net LAPT Grand Final Day 3: Nestola Leads; Negreanu Eyes LAPT TitlePokerStars.net LAPT Grand Final Day 3: Nestola Leads; Negreanu Eyes LAPT Title. Also falling short of the final table were notables Caio Pimenta (12th) and Mayu Roca (11th). The last player eliminated on the day was Joshua Ewing in ninth place.

Getting short on chips, Ewing looked down to see pocket fours and moved all-in for approximately 230,000. He was crushed by the pocket kings held by Gasperino Nicolas and couldn’t find any help on the flop, turn or river. For his finish, Ewing took home R$22,390 and his elimination officially ended the day.

The biggest name at the final table belongs to Team PokerStars Pro and four-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu. This was Negreanu’s first time ever making an LAPT cash and he’s made the most of it so far by finding his way to the final table. In doing so, Negreanu has accomplished a feat that no other poker player has done.

Combining this final table appearance with his EPT Vienna and APPT Sydney final table finishes in 2010, Negreanu is the only poker player to ever make a final table in Main Events across all three of the PokerStars-sponsored tours. “Kid Poker” bagged up 702,000 in chips and will enter Monday’s final day fifth overall.
