Many of you have been asking, “Why the support for the Governor Johnson 2012 Presidential
Campaign since what we are doing seems to violate some the well established rules on www.twoplustwo.com?”
And the answer is simple: poker is under attack.
Changing the subject slightly, we at 2+2 believe that there are two important pillars to
the success of our website. The first is obviously poker. It’s the bond that brings all of
us together, and this includes people with a large diverse set of views. Put in political
terms, our posters range from the most politically conservative/libertarian who think there
should be virtually no government, to the extreme liberal who thinks that our government
should play a role in many of our day-to-day decisions. And all of this has worked because
the common bond of poker has helped to keep everything together.
But the other factors in making our website work are the rules that we all must function
under. Specifically, these include two very important rules:
- No solicitations for money
- No self-promotion.
Over the years, we have had many opportunities to violate these rules, but we have never
done so, and at times, particularly when it comes to contributing to charities, we have received
our share of criticism. Yet we never wavered.
Today, we feel the environment for poker has changed, and that change has been dramatic.
The events of Black Friday, and the problems it has caused, especially with Full Tilt Poker,
have changed the poker landscape in a manner that none of us would have anticipated. Yes,
there were some people out there who said the status quo could not remain unchanged as time
went on, but no one anticipated the size and scope of the current attack.
Then in late May, my wife Charmaine and I received an unexpected phone call. It came from
an old friend of Charmaine’s, someone she has known since high school. Also on the
phone with this friend was Governor Gary Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, who
told me that he was running for President of the United States. He believed strongly in individual
freedom, that the right to play poker as we choose to, including playing on the Internet,
is definitely one of our individual freedoms, and that as part of his campaign he planned
to speak out on this issue. Thus our support was instantly granted.
Now it may turn out that some of you feel there is more than selecting a presidential candidate
than just his position on poker, and we at 2+2 certainly agree. So, to this end we encourage
all of you to spend some time on Governor Johnson’s
campaign website to learn more about the candidate and where he stands on
all of the issues. If you like what you see, as we in 2+2 management certainly do, please
consider making a donation on his Poker Players
donation page.
